To give you an idea of the great diversity of farm products, vegetables, and
fruits on FINCA PASIFLORA, we are providing a list below. In addition to the
edible plants and fruits, there are 26 different medicinal plants (which Yami
knows and makes use of) and 50 types of ornamental plants (incl. an extensive
orchid and catus collections).
We also have several pigs, chickens, turkeys, geese, ducks, and cats and dogs
as pets.

List of fruit-bearing plants and trees
Edible plants and harvest times:
- Yucca (all year)
- Taro root (December) - four varieties
- Yam (November to March) - three varieties
- Air potato (January to March) - drop from a vine
- Sweet potato (all year) - three types
- Jerusalem artichoke (all year)
- Small Spanish red peanut (all year)
- Sagu (January to March) - looks like white carrot. Very
starky, used for puddings
- Cherry tomatoes (all year)
- Sweet peppers (all year) - grows on a bush
- Hot peppers (all year) - grows sporadically
- Ginger (January to March)
- Tumeric (January to March)
- Okra (all year) - spineless tree variety; seeds are used
for a coffee sustitute
- Cowpea (all year) - 14 different varieties
- Black and red beans (October to November)
- Corn (March and September) - This is an older variety
of corn. It is taller, produces less, but is long-lasting and good for beans
to grow up as well as more resistant
- Pigeon pea (February to April) - grows on a bush
- Sesame (April to November)
- Spinach (all year) - This type of dark green spinach is
usually used ornimentally
- Chayote (all year)
- Black pepper (all year)
- Squash (generic; all year) - Spaghetti squash is harvested
and cooked with brown sugar for Easter
- Spices: coriander, basil, dill, fennel (all year)
- Vanillia - grows on a vine
Fruit-bearing plants and trees and harvest times:
- Pejivalle (May to October) - apart from the nutritious
fruits, the palm hearts (palmito) are eaten
- Banana (all year) - 22 different types, three of which
are ornamental
- Platano (January to April) - five different cooking varieties
- Pineapple (May or June) - two varieties, and two ornamentals
- Citus (orange, sweet and sour tangerines, limon dulce,
white grapefruit)
- Mangoes (June to August) - four different varieties
- Avocado (June to August)
- Rambutan (September to October)
- Biriba (January, June)
- Breadnut (sporadic) - the other gender of this species
is bread fruit; this spiky fruit is used for the chestnut-like nuts
- Jackfruit (April)
- Mangosteen (October to November) - relatively unmarketed
or known in Costa Rica
- Starfruit (August to September)
- Guava (March, July)
- Surinam cherry (April, May)
- Rose apple and water apple (April, May)
- Macademia nuts (April, May)
- Araza (sporadic) - have a small orchard of ten trees
- Naranjilla (all year) - three varieties
- Passionfruit (sporadic) - grown on a vine
- Abiu (April, May)
- Miracle fruit (sporadic) - so named because after eating
it, sour foods taste sweet. It actually changes taste buds
